COVID-19: May 12th Update

Return to News

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting state of emergency here in British Columbia has been a challenge for us all, and the disruption caused by this, is one we will all remember. Registrants have weathered the storm as best they could, and we recognize the eagerness to return to caring for British Columbians.

We were all pleased when Premier John Horgan announced the plan and timeline to restart BC’s healthcare sector last week. Particularly that, Phase 2 opening in mid-May (May 19th), would allow the return of in-person optometric services that are not considered urgent or emergencies.

The College of Optometrists of BC has prepared a “Return to Practice Guidelines” document, which has been delivered to Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer and Ministry of Health. We hope to receive confirmation from Dr. Henry and the Ministry, that our submitted guidelines meet the standards required for a safe return before registrants may restart their practices.

Stay safe and we will continue to keep you up to date.
