CDOBC recently received a letter from the BC Ministry of Health confirming the Ministry’s intention to amalgamate 11 current health profession regulatory colleges, including CDOBC,  to create two new regulatory colleges:

  • one that will regulate occupational therapists, opticians, optometrists, physical therapists, psychologists, and speech and hearing health professionals; and
  • one that will regulate chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopathic physicians, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists.

In its letter, the Ministry communicated its intention for these amalgamations to be legally completed by the end of June 2024. The Ministry has also committed to providing financial support to implement the amalgamations.

These amalgamations are part of the Ministry of Health’s multi-year initiative to modernize BC’s health profession regulatory framework, informed by the Cayton Report and the 2020 recommendations of the Steering Committee on Modernization of Health Professional Regulation.

The amalgamating colleges are currently working with the Ministry to develop a plan and process to move this work forward, including engaging a project team. More detailed information about the process, and how it will affect registrants, will be issued as it becomes available.
