Proposed Standards of Practice

On May 29, 2017 the Board of the College of Optometrists of British Columbia (the “College”) approved, in principle, new Standards of Practice, intended to form an optimum framework for optometry practice and for our core regulatory functions.

Preamble

All registrants of the College are required to comply with the Standards of Practice.

The standards are written in plain language and span the full scope of optometric practice. They are framed in aspirational but achievable terms.

Each registrant must determine – and accept accountability for – how the standards are implemented. The College provides Statements of Guidance to assist this process.

The College views compliance with all standards as crucial in the delivery of current, high quality optometric services that are safe, effective and ethical. This is in the joint interest of the public and the profession.

In addition, the College will undertake an online survey in late September 2017, in which all registrants will be invited to participate.

Registrants are invited to submit comments to the College about the proposed new Standards. This can be done at any time prior to September 30 2017, but we suggest that submission of comments should follow participation in a webinar and / or the survey.
