Registrants – What to do if you receive a complaint
The College of Optometrists of British Columbia is committed to serving and protecting the public and carrying out its mandate in a transparent and accountable manner. As such, we understand that every complaint has two sides. If a complaint is lodged against you, you will have the opportunity to discuss your side of the incident. The complainant’s letter will be shared with you, and you will be asked to prepare a response of the incident and submit relevant records. If more than one optometrist is involved in the incident, they will also be invited to provide a written response. The College may contact others involved in the complainant’s case to obtain additional relevant information. This detailed process helps the Inquiry Committee come to a fair and appropriate decision.
All materials collected and reviewed by the Inquiry Committee in the course of its investigation will be shared with you and the complainant involved.
